KENNETH McKELLAR had one of Scotland's most memorable tenor voices.
His style is rich and operatic, having trained at The Royal College of Music,
London, and begun his career in opera. He drew on his love of traditional
Scottish music, becoming a star internationally renowned and loved.
This
collection of eighteen well known songs is the perfect platform for his
powerful voice, combining orchestral, arrangements with beautiful Scots
melodies. Throughout his life McKellar continued to perform both opera and
Scots songs, but it is for the latter that he will be best rememebered, with
his interpretation of the works of Robert Burns and the 'Song of the Clyde' was
the theme music to the film 'Billy Liar' (1963) and the first track broadcat on
Radio Clyde (1973).
Sir Sean Connery said "Kenneth McKellar had a
wonderful voice, but above all he was an outstanding human being, with a
sparkling sense of humour." With a huge following worldwide, McKellar promoted
Scotland's music and culture to fans, appearing in stage musicals and on
regular television programmes, as well as competing in the Eurovision Song
Contest.
His music lives on in his recordings for future generations to
enjoy and for fans to rememeber, a larger than life character who loved his
country and its music. |
